It's most likely the number of posts you've made. There used to be a counter for your # of posts, now it says points.

It still shows the number of posts. Also, the amount of points and number of posts are different.

Wow soul has a point-he only has 60-something posts and 400-something points. It's definitely not # of posts. Also I have 600+ posts and my points are in the 500's.

Though my post and point count are really close and its the same w/ quite a few others. But then a few people have completely different numbers. Like I think Akroma has 1000 some points and a couple hundred posts. I don't think they're related in any way.

POINTs are a mix of number of posts with date joined and clicing on the THANKS also gives poits.

you will only see a THANKS bottun when someone gives you a + on your post.

i think its good to have some kind of rank besides number of posts.

i dobble checked and the thanks button as noothing to do with points , it as to do with reputation.

If I'm not mistaking...

points are more important than posts because whilst posts count the number of actual posts, points somehow calculate their quality...

this could be based on the number of responses, number of views or some other factors.

I'm not sure but I think thats how it works...

correct me if I'm wrong...

* Points generated by the number of topics created
* Points generated by the number of friends that the user has
