Fun Questions
Seeing as the Fun Facts thread is very popular I thought I'd start a Fun Questions thread.
See if you can answer any of the following. Enjoy!
Imagine 100 light bulbs with light switches numbered 1 through 100, all in a row, all off. Suppose you do the following: toggle all switches that are multiples of 1, then toggle all switches that are multiples of 2, then toggle all switches that are multiples of 3, etc.
By the time you are finished (and have toggled multiples of 100, which is just the last switch), which light bulbs are on and which are off?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is dot over the letter "i" called?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can tell from the statue of a mounted horseman how the rider died. If all four of the horse's feet are on the ground, he died of natural causes. One foot raised means he died from wounds suffered in battle. What does it mean when two legs are raised?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mel Blanc (the voice of Bugs Bunny) was allergic to which vegetable?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The camel is known as "the ship of desert" due to fact that it can go for long periods of time without water. What animal can last longer without water than a camel?

Re: Fun Questions
The "dot" above the letter i is called a superscript dot, added to the letter in the middle ages to distinguish it vertical slashes in letters such as u, m, and n. On an added note the letter j was originally an alternative means of writing the letter i, introduced at the same time as the dot, later to become a letter of its own.
As for what Mel Blanc was allergic to, Force is right, he was allergic to carrots.

Re: Fun Questions
Mel Blanc was indeed allergic to carrots.
The dot above the "i" - your description is correct Passifis however the dot actually has a name - it is known as a tittle.
The others;
If a statue of a mounted horseman has two legs raised then it means that the soldier died in action.
The only other animal that can survive longer than a camel without water is a rat.
The light bulbs which are on are the ones numbered 1, 4, 9, 16, ... all the squares!

Re: Fun Questions
lol sorry Spice ... the next maths question I post I'll leave for longer before posting the answer.
In the meantime here are a few more questions to sink your teeth into.
You are running in a race, and you overtake the second-place runner. What position are you in, now?
--------------------------------------------------
Different race. If you overtake the last-place runner, then you are in . . . ?
--------------------------------------------------
Mary’s father has five daughters: #1 is Nana, #2 is Nene, #3 is Nini, #4 is Nono. What is the name of daughter #5?
--------------------------------------------------
A mute person goes into a shop to buy a toothbrush. He imitates the action of brushing his teeth, thereby clearly expressing himself to the shopkeeper, and the purchase is made.
Next, a blind man comes into the shop who wants to buy a pair of sunglasses. How does he indicate what he wants?
--------------------------------------------------
The Cashew tree, from the same family as poison ivy, offers cashew nuts with a shell that has a poison which irritates the skin. What process removes the poison from the nuts?
--------------------------------------------------
Months that begin on a Sunday will always have what special day in them?
Enjoy!

Re: Fun Questions
The answer to the first one is second place.
The next one is that you can't be a participant in the race since you can't be after the last place person.
The third is two little information to tell.
The fourth, he tells the guy he wants some shades.
The fifth, um, you wear gloves and crack the shell?
The sixth, the seven days of the week.

Re: Fun Questions
Nicely done Force!
You got questions #1, #3, #4 and #6 correct.
#3 is a very old one and its always funny how many people don't see what is right in front of them.

Re: Fun Questions
As the Cashew is tecnically a member of the poison ivy family the toxins in the shell seep into the nut to some extent ... by "roasting" the nuts it nuetralizes the toxins.
#2 - now this isn't quite a fair question to be honest as it is supposed to be taken for granted that the race is on a track and there is more than one lap. As such the forst person to overtake the runner in last place would be the runner in first place. The main reason behind the wording of the question is to make people picture different forms of races and figure which one the question is meant to refer to ... I know not exactly fair but it is another old one so I posted it as I first saw myself.
Good job on that set though guys! I'll post a new set soon ... just trying to find a decent maths one to go into the set
