Beta event: June 8-10
First off and hopefully quick: It's a beta event, remember to remain "chill," be happy they said overflow shards have changed some (and chat! ), and it's just a three~ day deal so don't fret about picking a server too badly, it's just for little meet ups (I probably don't sound like it's "chill" in the text below, I'm too in anticipation yet again).
Hello everyone! As you may know, from the blog or from Beau (he beat me to it: school is my demise) or from simply the title of this thread, the beta event will run next week, starting Friday June 8th at 12:00 (noon) PDT. Current time in Seattle (PDT, Arenanet's location).
Planning to participate in this event and are not a member of the Guild Wars 2 Army of Lightness guild?
Write your already made/planned Guild Wars 2 character's name in a post, I'll have everyone in a collective list for me to invite. I'll most likely be on right at the start of the event, and at intervals add any new members
Orange names for those that have not decided their name specifically, please update with a new post if you make a decision of a specific name.
If you are on the list for the previous beta event and did not get an invitation, my apologies, I went down the list an hour or so after launch and invited everyone that had made their character - and later those that sent me mail reminding me and whispers got into the guild. (I hope the promotion system works this time around so others may get in requests).
Server Choices for this beta event:
Secondary choice if the first choice has any issues, tertiary choice if the secondary choice
has any issues.
The first choice is Yak's Bend because many had chosen that server already and
may have spent gems, unable to switch to the new first choice (Crystal Desert) which is now the second choice.
NA Servers:
First Choice
Yak's Bend
Second Choice
Crystal Desert
Third Choice
Moladune
Anyone in concern of lag that they may experience should go to Crystal Desert as it is most likely a lot less populated.
EU Servers:
First Choice
Riverside
Second Choice
Augury Rock
Third Choice
Kodash
We get free gems for the beta event to change worlds once if need be.
Remember, this is a beta event and this guild we have running for alliance members for the betas
will not carry over into the complete game at launch. No server decisions are finalized for the launch of the game.

So, just to be clear. We are staying in Yak's Bend now? The last I saw on this we were planning to move to Crystal Desert.
Edit: OK, sorry, I just read the fine print. It makes sense to stay in Yak's Bend since our current characters will still be there. Can't wait to see y'all in game!
Finnguala wrote:Poll complete, due to nobody consolidating votes in the other categories - I am using a random number calculator to determine the second and third choices (if you have any problems with the first - choose the second, if problems with the second - choose the third choice).

i believe the crystal desert one is for when gw2 goes live. Unless I am mistaken. I'm pretty sure that yaks will be full up and 3/4 of RLR is already in henge of denravi while the others in RLR playing gw2 are in yaks.

Made it more legible, I think only my subconscious was alerted that it might be too small for people to see.

No determination as to what our official servers will be. That will most likely be led by simply your guild, etc. etc. (that's above my pay-grade ).
It's nice in that we keep our characters and such, but a bummer in that the servers won't be able to change (unless they give us an update saying otherwise) because we already had a choice that didn't turn out so well because of certain lag and such (Yak's Bend was terribly full).
Anyone in concern of lag that they may experience should go to Crystal Desert as it is most likely a lot less populated.

Re: Beta event: June 8-10
THAT was wicked fun my first time in Beta! My computer groaned chugged and flipped me off at least twice, but I got in to poke around and see what was what (yes the doorstop will be upgraded before 2 is officially released).
Fav parts- wandering all over the place literally stumbling on things to do, partying up with random people, falling off a ledge and dying on impact, so much that can be done and tons of options. Feeding those damn bunnies and having the hungry bunnayyys tackle you and make you drop the food (was fun but REALLY wanted there to be a drop-kick skill to knock them over the cliff). On the map it showed where to go to earn skill points- that was cool imho.
Not so fav parts- no best customer discounts available at the armor repair peoples, NPC's in towns/areas yabbing got to be really annoying and I didn't see where in volume options I could shut them off without muting dialog everywhere. Staying focused is going to be hard in 2 (lol can that be considered a complaint? oh please no not TOO much fun stuff to do ), didn't get into any of the world stuff and really wanted to
Stumbled across the below and had to try to run through naturally

Re: Beta event: June 8-10
I haven't spent all that much time in PvE, only around 10-30 mins or so.
However, I spent the entire BWE#2 in WvW firstly pushing Darkhaven (Reddit, Gamebreaker, etc) back with a smaller force to then getting owned by Jade Quarry (still sour about that , but I shall have my revenge).
Saw a few AoL members running around in WvW as well.
P.S. How do I link pics?

Glad to hear you had fun Kiera! I think it just gets more fun as you learn more of how to best run your character. This game has massive potential already and it promises to just get better as they streamline the gameplay.

Re: Beta event: June 8-10
Glad to hear you had fun Kierra. I had a blast exploring all the races and several classes in PvE. I managed to avoid PvP this Beta too. I am promising myself to experience PvP next time. I've already putzed around the PvE world more than I really want. I love he stories in these games and I don't want to spoil half my exploring fun before the game even starts for real. I was never a big PvP person in GW1, but I want to take full advantage of GW2. I don't want to become bored or frustrated and disappear again.
I do agree the NPC chatter is annoying. Some of it is entertaining, but if you stand in one spot for more than a minute you begin to hear the same phrases over and over. It is very annoying. I really hope they are still in process of recording more variety, or as you said putting in a way to mute NPC conversation. I think I will suggest that on the forum.
If they do put in a mute, I'll have to remember to turn the mute off when visiting new areas, or maybe the mute could be zone specific. I would hate to miss out on anything in a new Zone just because I got tired of listening to a Necromancer recruit debating the merits of devoting her live to Grenth since he is to dark and gruesome, and someone replying that she should rethink her choice of profession. I can't remember what I was doing, but I heard that conversation at least 50 times yesterday.
However, some of it is quite amusing and it doesn't happen with such regularity. I would hate to miss those tidbits too because of muting. Like I've been outside the Black Citadel many times, but only once have I caught some marching Char soldiers doing a quite funny marching chant. If I had muted the voices because of the annoying merchants earlier, I would have missed that totally enjoyable moment.
There was also a discussion in guild chat how every zone so far has had farms in trouble and people that need escorting through dangerous territory. I agree that the game will become boring very fast if will have to kill bugs and pest in a garden and escort a supply wagon from point A to point B in every world. Having said that the primary story line quests have been quite interesting. The noble human that wants to join a circus started out pretty weak, but it had a strong finish. I am thoroughly enjoying the Char story line so far. Haven't really done much in the Norn yet, but the start was intriguing.
OK... now to cut and paste and edit this for the GW2 general forum.

Re: Beta event: June 8-10
PvP! I think I can see myself going full out as a PvP player in Guild Wars 2. I blame the beta for this, as I didn't commit to PvE for the reason that I feel like it's all going away (which it is...).
Anyhow, in Guild Wars 1 I went in spurts. The first time I played it I was doing Alliance Battles and random PvP the most - then I got into the "real" game.
So, I see my first era in Guild Wars 2 as more PvP-oriented.

Re: Beta event: June 8-10
I did WvW the whole weekend. I have two tips:
1.Expect to be extremely poor (Gear repairs and Siege units)
2.Make as much money by gathering the low end mats at the north side of the home map (Copper, Green Wood, etc)
The upside is you can spend 3+ hours in an epic long tug-o-war trying to take keeps, outposts and garrisons.

Does anyone else feel like it's weird that there are also Asura and Sylvari? Just... the beta events only have the three: Norn, Human, and Charr... so it feels so weird that we'll also be able, to sum it up, to play short people and plant people.
