Guild Missions and Newbies Empty Guild Missions and Newbies

Post by Kittynne Wed Oct 29, 2014 1:20 am

Hai!  So I was talking to Nai tonight.  And I've had convos with others in the past.

I hear there are some guildies who don't understand how the GMs work, or what the mechanics are, etc.  And I also hear that ratche does a bit of explaining beforehand, but that it's limited (of course, because of brevity) and also sometimes it's hard to hear ratche over the other convos that are going on in teamspeak.

For the ratche being spoken over thing, probably a simple "hey guys, quiet down for a sec" is all that is needed.

BUT!

I was thinking, for those guildies who want to know more details about how to do the gms, we really should consider teaching them how to teach themselves.

So like, maybe 60, 45, 30, and 15 min before gms, an officer can say in guild chat:

"Guild missions starting in xx minutes.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with the mechanics, dulfy (or other site) has some good walkthroughs that will explain it to you.  I encourage you to take 10 minutes to look at these!"

And then provide a URL for them, of course.

Thoughts?

I'd offer to do it, but I can rarely make it to gms as it is.

And I know this is sort of handholding. But it's a little bit of effort that may help some newbies. Very Happy

If we can get them on Teamspeak, it would be a good idea to pull any new people to a quiet room for a conversation. Also providing the link to Dulfy's Guild Missions Guides would be awesome.

I feel like nobody's going to read up on it though xD

Small explanations in guild chat and TS seem like they're more likely to be heard.
I'll use myself as an example -there's tons of stuff I don't know, but if someone says "it's on the wiki" I'm just like meh I'll figure it out..but if someone explains to me I'm all *PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION TO WHAT YOURE TALKING ABOUT*

As far as the TS thing goes, I've been trying to tell people to shut the fuck up when Ratche is explaining but I have been slack with it. I think we just need to do that for a few missions to condition people. Eventually everyone will know to zip it when Ratche or others are giving instructions.

Yeah, beez has a really good point about rather being told how it is then told to check a link.. but then again theres a lot to explain if you want to cover everything and bam giant walls text no one likes

We could if we dont have one right now (I cant remember if it was made nor do I want to go look if one even exsists) but we could write and pin post on all the guild missions and just tell them the basics in gc but send them to forums (maybe encourage newbies to sign up to forums too?)
